So I took screenshots while i was drawing this, and decided to put them together for a little tutorial. This is just sort of an overview of the whole process, I'll assume that you have some experience with layers/opacity/the magic wand tool. And use a tablet.
1. flat colors.
2. use a large soft brush to lightly shade the entire picture and darken areas further away from the light source. delete areas outside lines using the magic wand tool.
3. using the eraser, set opacity to pen pressure. erase away areas that would be highlighted, adding detail.
4. continue to add details by erasing. now go back in and add more shadows using a small soft brush. make sure they are slightly darker then the first. like under the neck, behind ears, and outline hair clumps.
5. continue adding shadows in more detail, around the face and eyes, the folds in her clothes, ect. until you are happy with the result! C: and remember, the smudge tool is your friend! but use it wisely.
